“SEO optimization is making us $$!!”..says a customer as they sell to Google

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010 by Dustin

This email made my day today around 3pm. If you are in it for the money you’ve got it all wrong, this type of feed back is why Les and I play the game.

Details of how this went down coming in a video clip testimonial soon. (sadly/fortunately Fran was busy to day)

They ended up selling a balloon arch for this event to a guy at google who did a google search and found them!

Thanks for sharing Fran…we love hearing it! and we take a hint;)

–unaltered email

Hi, Dustin,

Johnathan and I wanted to let you know that your SEO optimization (”name-planting”) helped us land a balloon decorating job for Google!

Doodle4Google ( http://www.google.com/doodle4google/) is a nation-wide contest for school children grades K - 12. The students submit a Google logo altered to reflect the theme, “If I could do anything, I would…” A panel of judges selects 40 regional finalists - and Emily Caudill, age 15, from Williamstown Jr / Sr High School, Williamstown, KY is one of them!

As a regional finalist she wins a trip to New York City and a chance to win a $15,000 scholarship plus $25,000 for her school, plus have her logo displayed on Google’s home page on May 27!

But the $15,000 scholarship and $25,000 for her school will only happen if we vote for Emily. Doodle4Google now allows the public to vote on their favorite regional finalist. So, I’m letting everyone I know (hint hint - GREAT Green Thumb blog entry and e-mail to customers!) about the contest and our Kentucky winner, and asking them to vote for Emily!

I’ve attached Emily’s prize-winning design. So, go to http://www.google.com/doodle4google/vote.html , click on Grades 7-9, and vote for Emily’s Region 7 “The Chemistry of the World” entry!

PS - The Google video of last year’s contest is a good example of a video summary, probably what you are trying to get other customers to do. Check it out.

Wild Wednesday Wunderlich Web Workshop.

Thursday, April 15th, 2010 by Dustin

Wild Wednesday Wunderlich Web Workshop.

Say that 5 times fast.

So we are excited about having our 3rd workshop next week. The first two were great and this one will be no exception.

The room is already booked.

The next W.W.W.W.W. is April 21st at 2pm at Commerce Lexington.

…and no, you don’t have to be a chamber member to be there.

I’d also like to point out that this isn’t a talk, this is a workshop. You are going to be doing some work if you come. I’ll be answering any questions and I have a few topics to cover if need be.

Bring your laptops and get ready to work on your web presence.

See you next Wednesday at 2!

Only 3 spots left so email me or leave a comment to save your spot!

Changing my tune…..I hate Youtube….

Monday, April 5th, 2010 by Dustin

That’s right. Youtube/Google is getting under my skin. I’ve spent the past 20 minutes trying to set up a Youtube account for a client to show off a few certain things we are doing well these days…but Youtube is hating me.

Why? Because they just changed up the format on Youtube. They went in and changed something that was perfectly fine and probably improved it. But for now it is messed up… it won’t let me in and won’t let me sign up for a new Youtube account.

I’m salty.

Sadly the ability to go ahead and launch something without all of the bugs worked out of it is something that I admire in them….

Still ticked..

Google changes name to Topeka. Gmail gets smarter

Thursday, April 1st, 2010 by Dustin

So here I go again, back to loving on Google.

You have to love it. On April Fool’s day they change their name to Topeka. How much fun is that?

Ok, put aside the fact that they have the best search engine in the land. Put aside the fact that they have the best email ever. Put aside the fact that they own YouTube (and I love YouTube!)

Google is a just plain cool company. They build great stuff and appear to be having fun. The Topeka spoof is awesome along with all of the other homepage changes they make on certain holidays.

They are even fun when they are screwing up. I posted this yesterday, but it is worth repeating. Here is the error message I got when I was trying to do a video reply to a YouTube video.

“500 Internal Server Error

Sorry, something went wrong.

A team of highly trained monkeys has been dispatched to deal with this situation.
Also, please include the following information in your error report:

G_Ge3jSGbJCpAoLM2q6t0ktmQt1hHSnwT1i8_sz1USWkXlM3v1JOzq02pSPS

p-D0ia2pYgMF2VIabr-wwXZsID-do9N3F_gQLvU6rxTDjS7eN88OoDM0lm9d”

I doubt people see an error in Google often but when they do mess up they make light of it.

Google isn’t afraid of screwing up and launching something that might have some error. Kinda funny because they advance faster that way. I am be believer in that something will advance a bunch faster if you just release it. If you keep sitting on it, it’ll never get done and you wont have any feed back.

Google would rather try it and fail then fail to try.

The gmail vowel removal was also funny. But better then that…

Gmail is now reading my emails….

I sent an email that in the body said, “attached is a ….”

I went to send that emails with out the attachment and i got a reminder pop up. “you wrote attached is and attached nothing. Would you like to add the attachment before you send.”

Bet you Yahoo’s email doesn’t do that!

Any Gmail users out there?
