Lessons from a customer today. Adcolor Inc Drops some knowledge on Dustin

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010 by Dustin

I had a two hour meeting today with Adcolorinc.com today. We’re doing some local search engine work for them, oh and we are crushing it.

Dave and Lori Messner are the husband and wife who are the main owners. There are others, but these are the people who have been cutting the check. John Weiderman and Matt were also there.

The purpose of the meeting was for me to explain what had been going on with their website and the search engines. I won’t go into details but I was proud to show them the results we achieved for them.

So at the end of the meeting Dave pointed something out to me in a very kind way that I think is worth noting.

He said, "Dustin, I know you love what you are doing and you are excited about what you have accomplished. I remember when I first got started and was the same way. It’s exciting." "But I’d like for you to understand that just because you know that you are doing well for us, doesn’t mean that we fully understand what is going on."

I pulled the E-brake at this comment. I didn’t take offense to it. The fact of the matter is, this is information that most people won’t tell you. This information INSTANTLY helped me get a clear picture that I wasn’t painting a clear picture.

So I say thanks Dave and Lori. I realized today that while I know what I’m doing and that its doing them some good. They need to know clear as a bell how it is working for them…

Green Thumb got better today. Thanks Adcolor

“Inside the Mind of Google” is Mind Blowing…

“Inside the Mind of Google” Blows my mind

I just so happen to be crawling through my TV Guide last night, the one time a week I watch TV, and I noticed that a CNBC, a station I rarely watch, had a program coming on that was titled “Inside the Mind of Google.” As I sat there and debated whether or not to watch this show I noticed a slight increase in my “Geek Meter.”

None the less, I decided to give it a shot and watch this television program. I would rate myself a 5 out of 10 as far as my Google knowledge, so I felt like I had a pretty good grasp on it. I have done my own research, heard speeches about it, read blogs about the way that Google is changing not only the internet, but our lives. So I decided to devote an hour of my time to go “Inside the Mind of Google.”

Ladies and gentlemen, let’s just say that my mind was absolutely BLOWN when I went inside Google’s mind. This programming by CNBC was an exceptional piece of media journalism. It addressed many aspects of Google, some in which I were familiar with, and some that I knew nothing about.

Sergey Brin, the co-founder of Google, said “We’re investing now, not just in search, but the platforms that actually can bring the content that you find to the people more efficiently, more interactively, and with greater availability.” This is a very bold statement made by one of the most powerful people on the internet, but the best part about this statement is the truth that lies within. Google has become more than just a search engine; it is an online platform that people use daily to find what they are looking for. This made me think……

This platform does favor some industries more compared to others. For example, think about the service industries, there are going to be a significantly higher number of people searching for a service than for a product. One perfect example of this is anything to do with home remodeling or any other kind of in home service.

Let’s say that you need new carpet in your house. There are many different options when deciding to start this process. The first and most obvious is word of mouth, and that is how a lot of these service based companies have survived until the Internet age. Today, people would rather pull out their phone, or go to their nearest computer and search “Carpet, Lexington, KY.” BAM! Punch in the face word of mouth! Why would you want to hear what one person says about a carpet company when you can turn to Google, and not only figure out what people think about different companies but do your own research to find out which company fits you best. We at Green Thumb Marketing get this, and that is why we are here to help.

Another interesting point that was discussed in the program was how Google determines what shows up where. It is built off a platform that allows more quality and higher credible sites to show up higher and to receive more traffic. This is one area that Green Thumb Marketing understands, that is why we build sites that are ready for Google, ready for you to be found, and ready for you to receive all the customers that come from the internet. The customers are out there, all we are doing is acting as the air traffic controller directing the Boeing 747 full of customers to your site and to your business.
