I’d like to relate some of my mentoring ideas into a bigger picture.
If you name the most toxic NFL player of our decade it is probably Mick Vick. (OJ would be second IMO)
Mike Vick killed and tortured dogs. I don’t even like dog…..yep…I’m a cat person. I still feel what he did was wrong though…
So with Mike Vick being the most toxic guy in the NFL, there has to be someone who could help bring him back.
That man is Tony Dungy. Tony Dungy is a religious man. I’m not big on religion, but I admire Tony Dungy greatly.
A quick back drop of why I like Tony Dungy….
1. People forget that he built a Tampa bay team out of nothing. He was let go and Grueden came in and won a super bowl the next year. (It was Dungy’s team)
2. Tony Dungy’s kid hung himself. I have a daughter who can’t even talk or walk yet, but I can’t fathom what I would do if something happened to her. It would slaughter me, but her taking her own life…its beyond think able. Tony Dungy played through it…
3. Tony Dungy won a Superbowl. He beat the Patriots and then went on to beat the Bears in the big show. (this was also the first time two black coaches were ever in the superbowl too)
4. Tony Dungy left the NFL and an incredibly well built football organization with the best quarterback ever. (yeah I said it, Manning is it-period) He left it all behind to be with his family…and to MENTOR YOUNG MEN.
You can read the article at length about Dungy and Vick…

I guess I like Dungy because he has the giving spirit that some men older then I have to help younger people. He seeks out trouble and tries to make a difference. He’s got nothing to gain but a feeling of helping someone….
Read that article. It talks about him visiting Vick in jail….it’s long. It’s good.
